For first fire up or after replacing tanks

  • Turn off furnace
  • Open propane slowly
  • Light kitchen stove to bleed air from lines.
  • Turn on the heater.

Failure to do this could result in the furnace trying to start but fail after 3 tries due to air in the line. Once this happens the furnace goes into safety mode and will not attempt to light again until you reset it by turning the furnace off.

Changing tanks with Auto-switchover regulator

The switchover occurs when the cylinder pressure drops too low. The cylinder pressure is more dependent on temperature than volume. And, cylinder temperature is directly affected by the volume of use. Therefore, at 80F with low usage, the cylinder pressure will be maintained at over 100psi until the cylinder is almost empty. At freezing propane’s natural pressure reduces to less than 60psi. Using a lot of volume (furnace running non-stop) further reduces the cylinder temperature until the cylinder can no longer vaporize the liquid in the cylinder.

  • Open both tanks slowly
  • Turn the knob on the switchover valve pointing to the tank you want to use first.
  • If tanks are full, the gauge will turn green.
  • When that tank runs out it will automatically switch to the second tank and the gauge will turn red indicating empty.
  • Now switch the knob to the second tank, the gauge will turn green indicating the full tank on the second tank.
  • You can now replace the empty tank without turning off the furnace.
  • Repeat as gauge changes.

The key to not running out of propane is to check the gauge periodically for propane tank level.
