This year, we embarked on an epic journey to the Northeast, a trip filled with history, breathtaking natural beauty, and unforgettable experiences. Starting in Kansas City, we ventured to Hannibal, Missouri, where the hometown of Mark Twain brought to life the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. We paused in Illinois to spend cherished time with family before continuing our journey east.
In Indiana, we explored the legacy of the Indianapolis 500, immersing ourselves in the rich culture of racing. Crossing into Ohio, we admired the charming covered bridges, marveled at the natural wonders of Hocking Hills State Park, and delved into the aviation history of the Wright Brothers.
In Pennsylvania, the stunning beauty of the Appalachian Mountains greeted us. We paid our respects at the Flight 93 National Memorial and immersed ourselves in the early history of the United States. As we neared the Atlantic, we were captivated by the grandeur of Gilded Age mansions, savored fresh seafood, and celebrated the Fourth of July in Plymouth, where the Pilgrims first stepped ashore. In Boston, we walked through the historic streets where American independence was born and explored Salem, home to the infamous witch trials.
Continuing north, the natural splendor of Acadia National Park took our breath away, as did the rugged peaks of the White Mountains and the serene beauty of the Adirondacks. Along the way, we uncovered stories of early settlers, soldiers, and the complex history of those who originally called this land home. A visit to the majestic Niagara Falls left us in awe, and tracing the tranquil coastline of Lake Erie was a peaceful highlight.
On our return journey, we joined the vibrant National Rally for Grand Design RVs in the heart of the RV industry and spent meaningful time with family in Michigan. We explored the lush beauty of Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio and reflected on President Lincoln’s legacy in Illinois. Before returning to Kansas City, we stood in awe of the Cahokia Mounds, marveling at the ancient civilization’s impressive earthworks, and toured the iconic Anheuser-Busch plant in St. Louis.
Throughout the journey, we enjoyed numerous breweries, museums, and the diverse flavors and cultures of each region. This unforgettable adventure combined the awe-inspiring beauty of nature, the richness of history, and the joy of family connections, making it a journey we will treasure forever.
